CATIE's virtual master's degrees: specialize in sustainable agribusiness or watersheds.
- CATIE has open enrollment for two of its master's degrees in virtual and bimodal modalities.
June 26, 2023. For more than 70 years, the Graduate School of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) has focused on the training of leaders, becoming the most experienced university in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in agriculture and conservation of natural resources.
In addition to its face-to-face master's degree programs focused on food security, climate change, sustainable agriculture, agro-forestry and forestry, it also offers the opportunity for 100% virtual master's degrees, including Agribusiness Management and Sustainable Markets, known as GANEMOS, as well as Watershed Management and Administration.
GANEMOS: Transforming Conventional Businesses into Sustainable Agribusinesses
Ranked as LAC's first international master's degree program in sustainable agribusiness, GANEMOS addresses agribusiness models with the objective of providing professionals with knowledge, methodologies and tools that generate economic, social and environmental benefits, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
"The GANEMOS master's program focuses on strengthening the competencies of professionals so that they can develop business models that are economically profitable, environmentally responsible and socially just, with a clear focus on promoting development from the local to the global level," said Adriana Escobedo, academic coordinator of the master's program.
The program is developed in a 100% virtual mode and lasts 18 months. In 2023 it would be starting its fifth class of students, who would join a community of more than 170 graduates from 17 countries around the world.
Towards fair distribution and efficient water use
The international master's degree in Watershed Management returns in 2023 in two modalities: virtual professional and bimodal academic; the first with 100% remote and asynchronous sessions; and the second with virtual sessions plus the opportunity to complete a quarter in person at the CATIE campus in Costa Rica. Through scheduled sessions, the master's degree addresses territorial planning from the restoration, rehabilitation, sanitation and resilience building in watersheds with a sustainable approach.
"Currently, more and more landscape initiatives and approaches are being promoted to manage key challenges such as global change, which is where the watershed becomes highly relevant for its systemic, holistic and integrative approach," said Laura Benegas, academic coordinator of the master's program.
Both master's degree programs require as minimum requirements an undergraduate and/or bachelor's degree, as well as fluency in Spanish. If you are interested, we invite you to begin the admission process for agronegocios sostenibles (sustainable Agribusiness) or cuencas hidrográficas (watersheds)..
