CATIE research contributes to Costa Rica's State of the Nation report
- The Center contributes key data and studies to understand environmental challenges in the country's most influential report.
November 27, 2023. On November 23, Costa Rica presented its State of the Nation Report, number 29, in which CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) contributed research entitled: Use, conservation and management of biodiversity and forest resources in chapter 4 "Harmony with Nature".
The State of the Nation report is a key reference for understanding sustainable development in Costa Rica. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the country's social, economic, and environmental indicators, and proposes recommendations to address challenges and opportunities.
Lenin Corrales, senior advisor of CATIE's Climate Action Unit, explained that the research provided served as the basis for the preparation of chapter 4 of the report, which gives guidelines to the country on the state of the environment in the year 2022 and first half of 2023 for the national discussion on the achievements and challenges in this area.
The studies and data provided by CATIE enriched the understanding of critical issues such as biodiversity conservation, sustainable management of natural resources, the impact of productive activities on ecosystems, the extent of forest types and the mangrove ecosystem, green infrastructure in the Greater Metropolitan Area, management and management of forest resources and the forest, as well as the sustainable use of marine-coastal resources.
"We are committed to generating solid and applicable knowledge that will have a positive impact on the region. Collaborating with the State of the Nation Report allows us to share our research and data with a broad audience and contribute to informed decision-making in Costa Rica," said Corrales.
In addition, Corrales noted that infrastructure map of the Greater Metropolitan Area, contributed by CATIE, is bringing the country into the discussion on green inequality.
The State of the Nation Report represents a valuable resource for those with an interest in understanding and promoting sustainable development in the country and the Latin American region.
