CATIE opens a call for master's degree funding in the ESCALAR Project 2024
- Students from Latin America and the Caribbean Wanted for Three Key Research Areas
CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) is announcing a call for students from Latin America and the Caribbean interested in pursuing master's degrees in 2024 under the ESCALAR Project (2022-2026).
This project, focused on strengthening resilience to climate change through agricultural innovations, is seeking young leaders from vulnerable communities in the Dry Corridor of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Details of the ESCALAR Project
Implemented by CATIE with the support of Swedish Cooperation and strategic partners, the ESCALAR Project aims to develop rural enterprises led by young people, thus contributing to a more effective adaptation of agriculture in high-priority areas.
To achieve this goal, students with an interest in three key research areas for the year 2024 are sought:
BIOECONOMY: Valorization of Waste in the Coffee Production and Processing Chain.
COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS: Innovations for climate change adaptation using stochastic methods, including Monte Carlo Simulation.
SOIL HEALTH IMPROVEMENT: In arid zones.
Requirements and Benefits
Selected individuals will receive financial support of USD 15,000 (fifteen thousand US dollars), distributed as USD 6,000 for living expenses during the first academic year (USD 500 per month) and USD 9,000 for academic tuition payment.
They will work at least 10 hours per week on activities related to the ESCALAR Project, considering this financial support as consultancy.

Requirements to be attached in the Google form:
a) One-page Purpose or Interest Statement with 1.1 line spacing, in Calibri font, size 11. This document provides the applicant with the opportunity to succinctly summarize their goals, experiences, motivations, and qualifications related to the master's degree and the proposed research in the mentioned topics. The purpose of this document is to present the applicant's background, aspirations, and reasons for seeking the master's degree and involvement in research clearly and precisely.
b) Resume of up to four pages.
c) A 10 MB video, one minute in duration, in which the applicant explains, through a clear, concise, and engaging speech, why they should be selected to receive the funding.
