CATIE Board of Directors Unveils Commemorative Plaque for 50th Anniversary

February 20, 2024Members of the CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) Board of Directors, accompanied by the Director General, Muhammad Ibrahim, officially unveiled the commemorative plaque for the institution's 50th anniversary. The plaque was placed in the lobby of the Henry Wallace building.
This event marks the conclusion of activities related to the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary, which took place throughout the previous year and represented a crucial moment of connection with the community and the region.
During the ceremony, the current Director General expressed gratitude to those present, emphasizing the honor of having distinguished personalities from the board participating in this important historical milestone.
Gale Garnett, President of the Board of Directors, stated that CATIE's 50 years represent 50 years of support for Latin America and the Caribbean. "We have faced many challenges during this time, but our commitment to sustainable development, scientific research, and agriculture remains steadfast. It is also a moment to express gratitude to our donors and collaborators," she said.
Alongside the President of the Board of Directors, participants included Roberto Camacho, Lloyd Day, Bosco Castillo Cruz, Adrian Thomas, Ivonne García, Vivian Polar, Karla Posada, Robert Bruce Montador, Daniel Barthelemy, Christoph Kohlmeyer, and Richard Rogers.
The event also featured the presence of the future Director General of CATIE, Mr. Luis Pocasangre Enamorado, who was part of the delegation accompanying the board.
The plaque, designed in polished cast aluminum with a black mineral background, bears the inscription "Celebrating five decades contributing research, education, and outreach in Latin America and the Caribbean."
The unveiling is part of a series of institutional outreach activities to the community, framed within the institution's 50 years.
