CATIE Participates in One of the World's Leading Conferences on Community-Based Natural Resource Management
- Results of two scientific articles authored by researchers from the Environmental Economics and Sustainable Agribusiness Unit (UEAAS/EfD) of CATIE were shared at the event.
From June 19 to 21, Róger Madrigal, coordinator of UEAAS/EfD at CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), is participating as a speaker at the Workshop on the Ostrom Workshop (WOW7) held at Indiana University, USA.
“The WOW7 is an event centered around themes inspired by the work of the first female Nobel laureate in Economics, Elinor Ostrom, and it brings together more than 300 researchers,” commented Madrigal.
The information being presented by the CATIE researcher is based on the article titled Sustained governance of community-based water management in the context of socioeconomic change: Lessons from Costa Rica, which was developed in collaboration with Felipe Murtinho and Tanya Hayes from Seattle University, as well as Bárbara Viguera, also a researcher from UEAAS/EfD del CATIE.
Additionally, results from another research conducted by Róger Madrigal, Pablo Evia, and Eduardo Pacay from UEAAS/EfD, alongside Katrina Mullan from the University of Montana, Subhrendu Pattanayak from Duke University, and Juan Robalino from the University of Costa Rica, are being shared. This article is titled Volumetric pricing use in community-based water organizations in Central America.
The potential and limitations of using volumetric pricing as a policy instrument to reduce water scarcity issues in community-based water organizations in Central America, as well as the factors that can encourage the participation of rural communities in these types of organizations, are among the main results presented by Madrigal.
About the WOW7
The WOW7 conference celebrates 50 years of contributions from the Ostrom Workshop towards the study of common-pool resources, polycentrism, and governance around the world.
