Miguel Arrieta Berrocal, CATIE student, appointed Deputy Minister of Youth of Costa Rica
- The President of the Republic of Costa Rica appointed Arrieta as part of his team to lead the country’s youth agenda.
On October 10th, the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, announced the appointment of Miguel Arrieta Berrocal as the new Deputy Minister of Youth. Arrieta is currently a student in CATIE’s (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) International Academic Master’s Program in Economics, Development, and Climate Change, and is set to graduate as part of the 2023-2024 cohort.
"At our institution, we are deeply proud of this achievement. Miguel Arrieta has demonstrated a great commitment to sustainable development and youth, two pillars that also guide CATIE's work. His appointment is a recognition of his dedication and leadership in issues that are essential for the future of Costa Rica," said Luis Pocasangre, Director General of CATIE.
Mariela Leandro, Dean of CATIE’s Graduate School, commented: "We are confident that Miguel will know how to implement policies that promote youth participation and sustainable development, generating a positive impact on Costa Rican society."
One of the main goals of the Deputy Ministry of Youth is to create spaces for participation, promote inclusive public policies, and improve opportunities for the country’s youth. Miguel Arrieta will work closely with various national and international institutions and organizations to advance these priority issues.
