CATIE Promotes Statistical Innovation with the Introduction of Navure Software
- The institution positions itself as a key player in promoting and teaching this modern application, starting its implementation with students of the Graduate School and technical staff.
The Graduate School and the Biostatistics Unit of CATIE recently concluded a series of demonstration classes on the statistical software Navure, led by its principal developer, Dr. Julio Di Rienzo.
This innovative software succeeds InfoStat, a tool that for over 20 years has supported data analysis for students and researchers at the institution and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to Di Rienzo, who also spearheaded the development of InfoStat, Navure was born out of the need to adapt to modern technologies and provide advanced tools for statistical analysis. "It was necessary to renew the software, create new tools, and in this technological context, InfoStat could no longer evolve. So, I decided to develop a new software from scratch, which I’ve come here to present," Di Rienzo explained.
Navure features key improvements, including a calculation engine based on the R programming language, automatic report generation in formats such as Word and PDF, and a more intuitive and user-friendly interface. Additionally, it offers more modern presentation graphics, making it a powerful and accessible tool for researchers and students alike.
CATIE: A Key Player in Knowledge Dissemination
Fernando Casanoves, Director of Education at CATIE, emphasized the institution's historical role in disseminating and training in the use of InfoStat: "For over 20 years, more than 300 training courses using InfoStat have been conducted across Latin America and the Caribbean. These courses will now be offered with Navure starting next year."
With this transition, CATIE reaffirms its commitment as a regional leader in teaching innovative tools for statistical analysis. Master's and doctoral students at the Graduate School will be the first to use Navure for their data analyses, while the Biostatistics Unit will continue offering refresher courses for researchers and technicians across the region.
Dr. Di Rienzo expressed confidence in CATIE's pivotal role in promoting Navure, mirroring the success achieved with InfoStat. "I hope Navure receives CATIE’s institutional support to continue reaching those in need across Latin America and the Caribbean," he stated.
Through this initiative, CATIE not only updates the tools it offers to its academic community but also reinforces its leadership as a training center for statistics and data analysis, positioning itself as a benchmark for modern technologies in science across the region.
