CATIE's Graduate School welcomes its new Student Council 2022-2023
- A new generation of students assumed the representation of the academic community of the Graduate School of CATIE.
May 2, 2022. On April 28, the new Student Council 2022-2023 of the Graduate School of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), which has a multicultural representation for the diverse exchange of knowledge and the strengthening of the different activities and projects of the institution, was transferred to the new Student Council 2022-2023.
The activity took place at the school's facilities and was attended by CATIE's director general, Muhammad Ibrahim; Juan Carlos Méndez, deputy general director and also representative, for this occasion, of Dean Roberto Quiroz; José Daniel Hernández, vice president of the Student Council 2021-2022; Paty Gálvez, general secretary of the outgoing council; and the students who will make up the new council. The ceremony was also held virtually in order to involve the presence of different students, graduates and other CATIE staff.
During the current year, the council will be composed of Luana Souza, president; Ana Candia Díaz, vice-president; JomayrisMedia, general secretary; Jafraisys Gutiérrez, treasurer; Sirey Ulloa, academic affairs member; María Fernanda Guanga, culture and relations member; Rosanna Guzmán, sports and recreation member; José Manuel Vera, student welfare member; Linsa González, environmental member; Jacqueline Cruz, communication member; Ana Melissa Urquía, doctoral representative; and Carolina Reyes, fiscal officer.
Among the countries represented by each of the members are: Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Mexico,
"I would like to congratulate and thank the outgoing council for their work. I hope that this board will be able to give feedback to the incoming board on the main issues to be addressed, to work together, and to raise the priorities for the institution," said Ibrahim. He also emphasized the willingness of the entire CATIE to support and ensure the educational quality of the entire institutional population in order to achieve significant learning for each of the countries in the region.
For her part, Luana Souza, new president of the Student Council 2022-2023, concluded: "I assure you that we will be here to listen and help in every way possible to make your experience at CATIE the most pleasant and memorable in the life of each one of you. Remember that all together we can add new ideas and leave our legacy (...) It is a great honor to participate in this event and we thank you very much for the vote of confidence".
