CATIE strengthens agricultural researchers' capabilities in Guatemala
- Professionals from ICTA in Guatemala strengthen capabilities and knowledge in advanced statistics.
December 4, 2023.CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), through its Biostatistics Unit, concluded the course on Advanced Statistics as part of the training process for specialized professionals in agricultural research.
The training took place from November 20 to December 2 at the facilities of the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (ICTA) in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
This course was provided in support of the Strengthening Program for the Capacities of Guatemalan Institutions in Agricultural Research to Support Rural Agricultural Development (CRIA), funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
The main objective was to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of ICTA professionals working in the field of agricultural research in different regions of the country.
The training, led by Fernando Casanoves and Eduardo Corrales, both experts from CATIE's Biostatistics Unit, focused on strengthening professionals' knowledge and skills in advanced statistical modeling and multivariate analysis of experiments, using the statistical software InfoStat as an analysis tool.
A total of 28 young professionals from the postgraduate program in Agricultural Research Specialization in the departments of Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, Chimaltenango, and Huehuetenango participated. They are being trained to play key roles in agricultural research in Guatemala.
