AGROMIRA, the Latin American event on sustainable agribusiness will be in 2025

- A graphic design contest was launched to find a graphic identity and open a participatory space for the entire region, with Marco Antonio Cadena Blanco, from Bolivia, emerging as the winner
February 22, 2024. From February 17 to 19, 2025, the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) will host AGROMIRA, the first event for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) that will strategically address the issue of sustainable agribusiness in the region.
Adriana Escobedo, senior specialist in sustainable agribusiness at the Environmental Economics and Sustainable Agribusiness Unit (UEAASEfD) of CATIE and coordinator of the team working on the organization of AGROMIRA, mentioned that, being the event at the beginning of 2025, it opens the possibility of having a greater impact and giving more opportunities for people to plan their participation, whether as a participant, an exhibitor of experiences, or a sponsor.
In addition to being the first event of its kind in LAC on the topic of sustainable agribusiness, AGROMIRA will be the space where the first regional platform for the presentation of innovative and sustainable practices in agribusiness management will be established. Additionally, it will promote professional updating by sharing the latest innovations, ranging from advanced technologies to innovative agricultural practices.
Networking spaces for the establishment of strategic alliances and connections with leading individuals, as well as the opportunity to share and learn from real and unique experiences, will be part of the advantages of participating in this event that will focus on four strategic themes: markets, opportunities, sustainability models, and applied technology.
AGROMIRA emerges from an inclusive contest
The event organizing team conceived since mid-2023 to launch a contest so that people with creative skills and in graphic design could send their proposals to give it an identity in a participative and inclusive way.
"This is how 26 proposals were received, from 19 participants, from eight different countries, creating from the start a space to demonstrate the importance of the participation of all creative people in the region," shared Andrea Garay, specialist in sustainable agribusiness at the UEAAS/EfD.
"For the selection of the winning design, there were six judges, three from CATIE and three external designers," explained Garay.
She added that three criteria were mainly evaluated: the name, the logo, and the overall design, with Marco Antonio Cadena Blanco's proposal from Bolivia becoming the winner for being very comprehensive, with ease of use, and because the composition of the logo has elements that are part of the event's objective.
The designer of AGROMIRA
Marco Antonio Cadena is a graphic designer from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés. Currently, he works as an independent professional.
When asked, Cadena explained that as a starting point to create the visual identity, he used the region of Latin America and the Caribbean as inspiration. In addition, he said that he thought of a name that was easy to pronounce, but with a meaning related to a sustainable future.
He indicated that the isotype, referring to the symbol or graphic representation presented, is composed of four elements: nature, production (furrows), future vision, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the other hand, Marco Antonio expressed a favorable position regarding the contest launched to give identity to the event.
"Such contests are positive because being of an international scope, they allow us designers to explore and research from each vision a possible solution, in addition to being clear with the rules and valuing the work done," he indicated.
