Guatemalan Public Officials Train for the Great National Crusade for Nutrition
- They received training in the use of the Moodle platform, which will be used to teach the strategic lines of this crusade
August 25, 2020 - At the request of the Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security (SESAN, its Spanish acronym), in the framework of the National Nutrition Information Platform Project (PiNN), financed by the European Union and executed by CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), a course on the use of the Moodle platform was held on August 21 in Guatemala City for public officials.
The objective was to familiarize officials with the platform, which will be used by SESAN to train them on the strategic guidelines of the Great National Crusade for Nutrition, which seeks to unite all sectors of the country in order to improve the nutrition of Guatemalan families, but, above all, with an emphasis on the poorest and most marginalized areas of Guatemala, applying a comprehensive approach that responds to the multi-causality of malnutrition.
Eduardo Say, PiNN Project coordinator, explained that the Moodle platform is a free software for online teaching, through the methodology based on dynamic, participatory and interactive processes. It has different methods of evaluation and any institution that has an online system can use it; in addition, it is compatible with any web browser.
Say pointed out that all the actions carried out around the Great National Crusade for Nutrition are of special interest to Project PiNN, since they focus on five priorities for attention, mainly preventing chronic malnutrition and anemia, reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality, and promoting food security and health of the Guatemalan population in poverty and extreme poverty.
With the Moodle platform it is expected to reach more than 1,000 officials, from the main government entities, who will lead the Great National Crusade for Nutrition.
